Weekly Blog 11: Stop Chasing Results. Start Chasing the Process.

We all want to see progress. A bigger lift. A lower number on the scale. A promotion at work. But what if I told you that chasing those results can actually hold you back? I’ve been there. I used to measure my worth by hitting personal records in powerlifting. If I missed, I felt like a failure. If I hit them, I felt on top of the world. But tying my confidence to outcomes I couldn’t fully control was a trap.
The real game changer came when I stopped obsessing over the results and started focusing on the process.
Why Chasing Results Can Hurt You
It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers. The scale, the PR, the six-pack, the promotion. These are clear markers of success. But they’re also fleeting. They don’t tell the whole story.
When your happiness depends on hitting a specific number, you set yourself up for disappointment. Life throws curveballs. Some days you’ll feel strong, other days weak. Some weeks the scale won’t budge. Sometimes the weights will feel heavier than they should. That’s normal.
I learned this the hard way. Early in my powerlifting journey, every training cycle was about the next personal record. If I hit it, I was successful. If I missed, I felt like all my work was wasted. I tied my confidence to something outside my control.
That mindset made training stressful and joyless.
What It Means to Chase the Process
Instead of asking, “Did I hit the PR?” I started asking, “Did I give today’s training everything I had?”
Did I follow my program?
Did I fuel my body well?
Did I recover properly?
Did I improve my technique?
Did I show up even when I didn’t feel like it?
These are things I can control every single day, and wins I can focus on to build confidence.
When I focused on these questions, the results started taking care of themselves. The process became my priority, not the outcome.

The Process Works Beyond the Gym
This idea isn’t just for lifting. It applies to every goal you have.
If you want to lose 30 pounds, you can’t force the scale to move overnight. But you can control your daily habits:
Preparing your meals
Hitting your protein targets
Training consistently
Getting enough sleep
If you want to grow your career, you can’t control every opportunity. But you can control your work ethic, attitude, and willingness to learn.
The same goes for any challenge you face.
How to Build a Process-Focused Mindset
Here’s how I shifted my mindset and how you can too:
1. Set Clear, Actionable Habits
Big goals are great, but break them down into daily habits you can control. For example, instead of “lose 30 pounds,” focus on “meal prep every Sunday” or “train 4 times a week.”
2. Track What You Can Control
Use tools like training logs or nutrition apps to track your effort, not just your results. For example, Gladiator Strength LLC offers personalized strength coaching that helps you focus on consistent progress, not just numbers on a barbell.
3. Celebrate Small Wins
Did you hit your protein goal? Did you complete your workout even when tired? Celebrate that. These small wins build momentum.
4. Be Patient and Trust the Process
Progress isn’t always visible. Sometimes it’s slow. But every small decision adds up.
Tools That Support the Process
To stay consistent, I recommend using products that support your daily habits without adding stress.
For example, Gladiator Strength Coaching offers personalized programs tailored to your goals and lifestyle. This helps you focus on the process with expert guidance rather than guessing what to do next.

Why Consistency Beats Perfection
Success isn’t built on one perfect day. It’s built on showing up day after day, especially when progress isn’t obvious.
Some days you’ll feel motivated. Other days you won’t. That’s normal. The key is to keep going anyway.
When you focus on the process, you build habits that last a lifetime. Personal records, weight loss, and promotions come and go. But the discipline and mental toughness you develop stay with you.
Final Thoughts
Set big goals. Dream big. But don’t let the outcome define you.
Fall in love with the process.
Because if you win the process, the results usually follow.
Remember, results are earned through hundreds of small decisions that no one sees. Focus on what you can control every day. Show up. Do the work. Trust the process.
Your future self will thank you.
